Some comics from Will Eisner's book New York The Big City. Eisner's work mostly focuses on urban environments, both the positive and negative features, and how people interact with each other. He lived in New York most of his life.
You are an artist in a city. According to conventional wisdom, your art will benefit from the sort of density, diversity, and synergy found only in a big old city like Baltimore, while Baltimore’s reputation as a city will benefit from the “cultural capital” you create by living and working here. In this class (and blog), we will examine the relationship between art, artists, and cities, with a focus on recent efforts by cities to use the arts and culture as a tool for revitalization.
