Hey,
A friend sent me this New York Times article about the city of Paris buying the buildings housing artist squats, renovating them and turning them into residency programs. It sounds like a really interesting way of dealing with things. Has anyone heard of any sort of precedent for this?

This is an interesting "tool." It sounds so progressive and European, but there are precedents for this in New York, where the city turned over squatted buildings (especially in the East Village) to non-profits. This would be a great paper topic for one of you. Let's keep looking for these "tools" of Arts-based revitalization. . .
